Moxibustion
Igniting the Body's Natural Warmth and Vitality
Ancient Thermal Therapy
Moxibustion is a traditional therapy that applies healing heat to the body by burning "Moxa" (prepared mugwort). This practice is designed to warm the "Yang," dispel cold, and invigorate the flow of Qi and blood, harmonizing the internal organs to restore balance.
Why Moxibustion?
It is especially effective for conditions that may not respond to acupuncture alone, particularly for:
- ✦ Chronic Cold Patterns & "Yang" Deficiency
- ✦ Digestive Weakness & Dampness
- ✦ Joint Pain Aggravated by Cold
- ✦ Strengthening the Elderly Constitution
The Imperial Approach
At Imperial Clinic, we primarily utilize Indirect Moxibustion, a safe and effective method where the heat source does not touch the skin directly. We often combine this with acupuncture—known as "Warming Needling"—to amplify the therapeutic effects through the needle's conductive properties.
Specialized Techniques
Warming Needle
Applying burning moxa to the head of an inserted acupuncture needle to deliver deep, penetrating heat directly into the meridian points.
Indirect Application
Using ginger, salt, or moxa sticks to buffer the heat, allowing for a gentle yet profound warming effect suitable for sensitive conditions.
Herbal Moxa
Blending moxa with fine herbal powders to tailor the energetic properties of the heat specifically to your individual diagnostic pattern.
